Released May 15 2006!
Artist: Viktor Sjöberg
Title: On a winter´s day
Media: Cd album
Catalogue number: Kalligrammofon ..1
more info:www.structuressonores.com
Viktor Sjöberg has been working in various fields of music over the past years. He started to compose music around 1995 and, using his own words, these compositions "was built around a naïve idea of what hip hop could be. More often than not, it failed, with the end result not even remotely resembling hip hop. This was the starting point. As time went by, actual hip hop was produced and therefore producing "real hip hop" soon became boring and predictable. New ideas came into play and I began developing my sample based music, his firm belief being that "hip hop is the ultimate free form music".
Today the musical expressions of Viktor Sjöberg are diverse but consistent. His soundscapes are unambiguously urban. His use of rough, often unprocessed field recordings as well as his sampling of phonograph records, creates a musical output which is as aware as it is attentive.
On a winter´s day is with no doubt about motion. It is in many ways an album that captures the relations and dynamics between the sometimes dramatic development of everyday life and the constant changes in nature. I find that its fragile yet shimmering atmosphere describes an ambivalence, moving between feelings of reverence and an anxiety that is caused by a lack of control.
Viktor himself describes the album like this:
"On a winter's day" is based around a musical theme which was constructed by stealing the opening chords of a very famous pop song. These few chords provided a sketchy foundation which was approached and abandoned in several ways.
"On a winter's day" revolves around the sound of the acoustic guitar. The acoustic guitar is the number one instrument used when musicians try to create the illusion of intimacy and authenticity, and the decision to reflect a very personal experience through acoustic guitar is a playful way of criticizing as well as acknowledging that myth.
"On a winter's day" tells a story of love. The setting is Gothenburg, Sweden.

1995 - 2005: TEN YEARS OF PIXBO PRODUCED SOUND...........celebrations:
celebration #1: unreleased song now downloadable: sjöberg/gustavsson - "you went too far". (source material recorded in hässleholm by johan gustavsson [tsukimono, mnoki, scraps of tape, broken concrete etc.] was sent to viktor sjöberg in gothenburg. the recordings were then manipulated using a computer and a borrowed tape echo. enjoy.)
celebration #2:

viktor sjöberg - "you know me better than that" [a young person's guide to structures sonores] this is eleven tracks from the later days of pixbo/structures (2000-2004). i originally did a similar compilation in june 2004 called "you think i'd leave your side baby?". if anyone wants this on cd i still have covers left and i could make a few more. a big thanks to lakr for hosting these mp3's. if you would like to tell me something.
01 viktor sjöberg - "self without me"
(featuring kianoush makvandi. taken from the 2001 album "audio architecture". recorded in 2000 i think. it's without a doubt the oldest song on this compilation. the lyrics are sort of an adaptation of an old persian poem. me, kianoush and our friend kristian once had a hip hop group called the higuita. we collected sound from hissy tapes from iran, we stole drums and eventually some of us actually wrote lyrics. and we also had airbrushed teeshirts made. "i hide the tea behind the soap in the shower/ dope just like tea can be/ i like it hot/ yo porky, how many flavours do we got?")
02 viktor sjöberg - "we will not tolerate"
(slightly edited version. taken from the 2004 3" ep "never been closer to heaven / never been further away". this song was initially released as a very exclusive bizcard cd-r. 10 copies. here's the story behind this song (the original linernotes): "december 2003.
i was cratedigging at the local thrift store as the radio playing in the room caught my attention. it was soon obvious that not only my attention was drawn to the radio and the topic being discussed. a couple of minutes later i found it hard to focus on the records in front of me. the shopkeeper was discussing the radio show with one of the customers, both of them expressing their thoughts loud and clear. i put down the records that i was holding in my hand and walked out of the store for the last time.
the original version of this song, "tolerate", was written by freestyle fellowship and can be found on their debut album "to whom it may concern...". the song was also released in an acapella version on their second album "innercity griots".
(last but not least, as lyrics born put it; "i really broke all the sampling laws on this damn song/ so now i'm an outlaw". well...i broke one of them, but i guess sometimes that's the sacrifices you have to make in order to get your point across.)" )
03 stream - "summersong"
(featuring tim guthrie. skratch by jonas odhner. taken from the 2004 album "crawl: beyond april". although we have never met, i have known tim for about six years. he is american and he likes pancakes. this is his wonderful interpretation of summer. thank you tim. we still have at least one important song left to do together.)
04 viktor sjöberg - "vitt sommarljus"
(for bert van dael. taken from
the 2004 3" ep "never been closer to heaven / never been further away". these words, written by a dear friend, will explain everything: "Crackles, Hiss, Broken Windshields, Snow, August, Mills,Museums, My Name On a Record. A strange combination from a place between heaven and away. A place where you look
up and see a still frame. A world not moving. A frozen memory
that tells you everything. This EP is by far the most beautiful
layered musical piece on this list. Its eye for detail and
essence is so profound and astonishing it makes me want
to go hide in Plato’s cave and just listen to it on repeat. This
talent needs to get signed with a record company or we
will not tolerate. A February and August album.")
05 dominique et natalië - "piscine"
(featuring kristofer ström +
jonas odhner. this song was released on a compilation called "monotoni #1". www.monotoni.se i first met dominique et natalië in a hotel on the french riviera. this was around 1995 i think. they were ever mysterious. the last thing i remember is them writing their name on a door in the back of the hotel. each time i went back i saw the graffiti and it was a very good thing. last year the hotel got renovated and the door was painted white. this song was recorded in kristianstad (sommarlust), malmö and johanneberg. additional work performed in pixbo.)
06 viktor sjöberg - "thoughts for kianoush"
(taken from the 2003 ep
"tracks of your tears". recorded in a room, gamlegården kristianstad. most of the records used to make this song were bought at fyndbörsen in kristianstad. filled with emptiness at a airport in copenhagen.)
07 stream - "sometimes"
(taken from the 2003 ep "tracks of your
tears". written and recorded in pixbo chambers, summer 2003. additional production in a room,
winter 2003. this song is (obviously) my take on the spiritual "sometimes i feel like
a motherless child". records were bought at various spots in gothenburg. it was also almost released somewhere else as well but i guess statens kulturråd would rather spend money on things like ane brun.)
08 sonores - "you wish!"
(taken from the 2004 ep "invain". this is one of the first sonores songs. it was recorded in jonas & dan's old apartment on enekullegatan, hisingen. me and jonas was trying to come up with something but nothing seemed to be working. eventually and not suprisingly jonas fell asleep, but i kept going. i messed around with some recordings that we had made of various things hitting the floor. then i played with the fender rhodes until i came up with something potentially great. feeling good, i went to sleep. when i woke up, jonas was sitting by the computer with the guitar in his lap. he was listening to my nightly adventures and doing some recording on top of it. the sonores web is found at www.sonores.tk)
09 stream - "wintersong"
(taken from the
2004 album "crawl: beyond april". this is track number eleven on the album, right near the end. i think i bought the record that i used for the beat in this song at dirty records in gothenburg. the guy who works there always seems very bothered by everything. i wonder why? they have lots of pretty cheap albums though.)
10 broken concrete - "leaves"
(taken from the 2003 release
"piece/peace" on fukk god let's create. this (along with the rest of the ep) was recorded during the very first broken concrete session. rain of hässleholm, steering wheel gone bad, and things forever buried. thank you thomas ekelund of fukk god for putting this out. we are thankful to be included in the brilliant back catalogue that is fukkgod.org. rest in peace FGLC.)
11 (a gothenburg diary (summer 2004)) 12.00"
(taken from the 2004 release ”a gothenburg diary
(summer 2004)”. isolation can make reality beautiful.)
tack.

VIKTOR SJÖBERG
Viktor spelar helakustisk rock'n'roll bortom igenkännelse.
